Some years ago, the city of Iquitos decided to invest in the Malecón Tarapacá, which runs parallel to
the Itaya river, from Belén
all the way up to the Seminario San Agustin, with
its famous little old church on the corner of Nauta
Street. The latter part, famous for its street entertainment and nightlife,
has been renamed Malecón Maldonado

Along The Boulevard, as it is locally known, you will find many
interesting buildings, like the Amazonian Museum,
which hosts an impressive collection of life-sized
statues of all the native tribes of the Amazon.
Another building of interest is the old Grand Hotel, because of its
splendid Art Deco architecture, in typical Iquiteño
ceramic tiles.
At the end of The Boulevard, at one block from the Plaza de Armas, a pedestrian thoroughfare has been created. You
can take a walk, enjoy the view and meet some of the street artists who
sell their artwork and souvenirs here. Usually there is very little
activity of any kind, but some of the bars and restaurants are open for
lunch.

At night this is the center of activity where many locals and
tourists gather to enjoy good food, cold drinks, great music and of course
the large variety of street entertainment.
The boulevard has a small amphitheater, where shows are put on every
night. Mostly comedy, often with children, animals and with the voluntary
participation of the audience. The stars depend on your generous donations
for their income.
