Museo Amazónico,
Malecón Tarapacá 386
|
The Amazonian
Museum forms a valuable cultural and historical contribution, not only to the people of Loreto,
but to the entire Amazon region, including the countries Peru, Brazil,
Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador.

|
Thanks to
the generous help and contributions from the Consejo
Transitorio de Administración
Regional de Loreto (CTAR-L), the rich history and
cultural heritage of our people has been rescued and preserved. Now we are
able to share these with our own people, as well as visitors, like
tourists, students, teachers and parents from our own country and from
around the world, who want to know more about the history and culture of
our land.

The
Amazonian Museum is located on the ground floor of the Prefectural House.
This stately house used to be the home and workplace of the Prefects of the
Department of Loreto, serving as their home, as well as their
administrative offices.
Built in
1863, the house is a typical example of Iquiteño
architecture, dating back to pre-rubber boom times. It originally consisted
of just one floor. The second storey was added in 1903.
|
|
The
first floor is fitted with large, arched windows that are protected by
wrought iron bars for security.
